The Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) National Conference, co-organized and in partnership with the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) will be held from November 2-4 in Brooklyn, NY at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Conference will feature a Keynote on research in marginalized communities and the impact of food insecurity on those with eating disorders; key findings and discussion will be shared. During the conference, educational tracks for both providers and those with eating disorders will provide for an exchange of experiences on how to increase treatment accessibility and effectiveness.

The event will draw an estimated 400 participants – healthcare providers, individuals with eating disorders and their families, educators, and advocates. Participants will be focused on education around the treatment of binge eating and higher weight eating disorders as the primary reason to attend.

The event includes two days of general and panel sessions, practical workshops and round-table discussions. All general/panel sessions will feature a community that is typically marginalized and affected by eating disorders. The conference is organized to recognize the intersection of these communities amongst one another and the eating disorders community. Planners aimed to continue efforts by the partner organizations to center marginalized voices in leadership and programming.

Furthermore, the event will include two pre-conference learning sessions on Thursday, November 2nd. “Strategies to Love Your Work More Than Ever: Practices to Build Resiliency” will be presented by Hilary Kinavey, MS, LPC, CDWF & Dana Sturtevant, MS, RD of Be Nourished in Portland, OR and is oriented to clinicians who work with eating disorders. Reshaping Body Image: An Art Therapy Sculpting Process will be presented by Amanda Bechtel, ATR-BC, LCPC, LCPAT and Laura Teoli, MS, ATR-BC, LPC and is oriented to both lay individuals and practitioners.

On the opening evening of the conference, Thursday, November 2nd, BEDA will present a debut premier of the movie Fattitude. The screening will take place at the Regal Cinema at its Court Street, Brooklyn location. 230 attendees are expected to take the short walk to the cinema to view this ground-breaking film.
