Binge Eating Disorder Association Founder and CEO Featured on Good Morning America
BEDA founder and CEO discusses most common eating disorder and her story
Severna Park, MD (March 16, 2009) – The Binge Eating Disorder Association (BEDA) announced today that Chevese Turner, its founder and chief executive officer, will be featured Tuesday, March 17, 2009, on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Turner will discuss her journey with binge eating disorder, from its roots in her early childhood through recovery in her 30s to founding BEDA in 2008. She will be featured along with Cynthia Bulik, PhD, director of the University of North Carolina's Eating Disorders Program, who will be discussing her recently released book, Crave: Why You Binge Eat and How to Stop.
“By telling my story, I hope I can help those struggling with binge eating to recognize the disorder in themselves and seek help,” says Turner. “Binge eating disorder affects one in every 35 adults, and binge eaters make up 30 percent of the overall overweight and obese population in the United States. This is a serious disorder that affects more than three times the number of anorexics and bulimics combined, and it deserves much more recognition, resources, and research than it is currently receiving. As a new organization, we’re very excited to be featured with Dr. Bulik on Good Morning America and have the opportunity to bring awareness to millions of people.”
Dr. Bulik will also present the keynote address, “Binge Eating Disorder: Bridging the Research-Practice Divide,” at the BEDA 2009 National Conference, June 18-20, 2009, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Binge Eating Disorder Association, Inc., (BEDA) is the national multidisciplinary provider and patient organization focusing on the unmet need for preventing, diagnosing, and treating binge eating disorder. BEDA is committed to facilitating awareness, quality of care, and recovery for those who live and those who work with binge eating disorder through education, resources, research, and best practice guidelines.
